Chinese Rural Economy
Chinese Rural Economy (monthly), launched in 1985, is a high-level academic journal on three agro issues published by the Rural Development Institute (RDI) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). Wei Houkai, RDI Director, serves as Editor-in-Chief and Du Zhixiong, RDI Deputy Director, as Deputy Editor-in-Chief and President. Zhang Xiaoshan, CASS academician, is the Director of the Editorial Board for the journal.
Chinese Rural Economy highlights theoretical discussion, policy guidance, practical relevance, and forward-looking forecast. It provides the place for exploring rural reform and development theory, window for understanding the reality of rural areas, platform for rural development experience exchanges, and reference for rural policy decisions.
The mission of the journal is to study major theoretical, practical and policy issues to be urgently addressed and summarize and present experience in rural reform and development, with particular emphasis on the combination of theory and practice and the practical value of articles, in order to timely grasp the trends and tendencies of the rural economy.
The philosophy of the journal is temper forward in pursuit of excellence, academic-oriented realistic contemplation, and foothold in China with a global view. "Temper forward in pursuit of excellence" refers to self-improvement of capabilities while keeping innovation and leading academic trends in line with the law of scientific research. "Academic-oriented realistic contemplation" means to carry forward the tradition of "linking theory with practice" and solve practical problems based on academic research. "Foothold in China with a global view" demonstrates the concerns on both domestic and international issues and embrace of authors at home and abroad.

Chinese Rural Economy is given an impact factor of 3.183, ranking first in the agricultural economy class, according to the 2014 Annual Report on the Impact Factor of Chinese Academic Journals (Humanities and Social Sciences).
Chinese Rural Economy is among the first 100 key journals funded by the National Social Science Foundation. It has won numerous CASS awards of outstanding journals, and was recognized as "China's Most Influential International Academic Journal (Humanities and Social Sciences)" for three consecutive years during 2012-2014 by the International Academic Literature Evaluation Research Center of China (jointly established by Tsinghua University Library and China Academic Journal Electronic Magazine owned by Tsinghua University).
Fives articles of Chinese Rural Economy were given the 4th (2010) China Rural Development Research Award, and four articles in the 5th (2012) (totally 10 winning papers for each session).
Chinese Rural Economy has now become an essential publication on Chinese rural economy for theoretical research institutions, universities and school students, government agencies, and policy research departments at all levels. It plays an irreplaceable role in the academic research on rural economy, development of rural economic disciplines, and training of talents on rural economy. It provides support for government decisions, facilitates exchanges of experience in rural reform and development, and helps to recognize the economic realities of Chinese rural areas and draw on the international experience. The journal has been subscribed by a number of famous universities and research institutions abroad.
